There are many reefs near Key West but our barrier reef that separates the depths of the Atlantic Ocean from the shallows of the Florida Keys is where we conduct and focus our reef fishing. This barrier reef off of Key West is the same reef that runs all the way to Miami. All part of a 150 mile long shallow breakwater underwater Eco system of life. Just 5 miles is the closest our reef gets to Key West but over 80 miles of it is the range we fish on our reef fishing charters and thanks to our Yellowfin 36" center console we can make short work of the run with a 42 mph cruise speed.

You Can Expect To Fish For

The reef holds the largest number of different species to fish for than any other area that our fishing charters in Key West have to offer. Most of those species are edible. Such as 4 species of grouper, 4 species of snapper, 3 species of mackerel, 5 species of jacks including permit, sailfish, blackfin tunas, cobia and occasionally mahi mahi. Now thats - versatility. Depending on the fishing seasons any number of these fish can be available throughout our Key West fishing calendar. Reef Fishing Charters

Reef fishing for red grouperOur reef fishing charters are conducted on a boat that has just a captain as the crew. Distances traveled can range from 5 to 55 miles away from Key West depending on the length of the trip, what species an angler would like to pursue and how far they would like to go to get them. We fish not only the reef but also wrecks along the way. Because we custom tailor every single fishing charter we do these details will be discussed at time of booking.

Reef fishing trips are private fishing charters for up to 6 persons or less for 4, 6 and 8 hours in length. The 4 and 6 hour trips will depart in the morning around 7:30 or in the afternoon at 1 or 2 pm. Full day trips are a little bit more customizable for departure times as they take up the full day and we cannot book another trip on it.. Extended trips are also available - ask for details.

Many different types of fishing techniques are used when reef fishing. Bottom fishing, sight casting, live baiting, drifting, trolling and kite fishing are some of the techniques we use when fishing the reefs. No experience is necessary. Our fishing guides and captains are very patient and offer instruction to help you have a successful day and will share with you the methods we use to catch fish and why we use them.

With a 42 mph cruising speed we can cover the long distances that are required from time to time and do it efficiently keeping your fishing rates down.

Comfort and versatility comes with the boat being able to fish all the way around in stead of just in the back offering the captain a limitless combination of fishing versatility to show his anglers a great day on the water. For added convenience our Yellowfin 36 has a bathroom if needed and bean bag chairs for longer runs.

Heavily Equipped our Yellowfin 36 has the most complete electronics package available, no expenses spared with 2 GARMIN 16" screens coupled with Fantom 56 Radar for finding birds when trolling on our deep sea fishing charters and keeping us safe at night. Bottom fishing with the GARMIN GSD 26 using a 3000 watt R509 transducer is second to none. We can read the bottom like a book at 1500 ft and see a fish hiding under a rock at 80. There is NOTHING better on the market. There is not a boat in Key West that is this well equipped.

Shown here is our 36 ft Yellowfin with triple Mercury 400s. Cruising speed of 40-42 mph and a top speed of 72 MPH. Plenty of room to fish and without a doubt the best riding center console on the market today.

Safety is always paramount important. Our Yellowfin 36' is fully equipped with 3 long range communications via VHF radio and satellite telephone. EPIRB, Long range flares and the best life jackets all inspected quarterly. Our Mercury Outboard motors are replaced yearly and our GARMIN electronics are updated to the latest when available.

Availability is important. When you call and our Yellowfin 36' center console is not available we will book you with a colleague that runs a comparable reef fishing experience. Our friends in the business have nice boats as well. We will provide you with images and details about them at the time of booking for you to approve.

The Fishing Gear We Use

Many different types of fishing techniques are used when reef fishing. The tackle used is primarily spin fishing and conventional rods. Because our anglers demand the best All of our equipment is by DAIWA.

No experience is necessary. Our fishing guides and captains are very patient and offer instruction to help you have a successful day and put some meat in the box or scratch off a trophy fish you have been in search for.

Our flats fishing guides offer fly rods to those that wish to fly fish we use are 8wt for bonefish, 9 or 10 wt for permit and baby tarpon, 11 or 12 wt for large tarpon. You are welcome to bring your own.
Note: We can only fish one angler at a time using fly fishing rod.
